The Penguins made some roster cuts today during their off day, trimming away nine players.
Besides Gauthier, the fourth goalie in the organization, only Tomas Galvas is on an NHL contract from this group. The Penguins stuck with the plan to loan the 20-year old 2026 second round pick back to his Czech team for the season – he could be recalled to Wilkes-Barre in the spring depending on how things go. Galvas shined in the prospect tournament a couple weeks ago in Detroit but then had a rocky showing in his first NHL preseason game last night against a more veteran Red Wings team.

Beyond that, not too many notable surprises. Overall, by my count the Penguins still have 59 players in their NHL training camp. Pittsburgh has another exhibition game tomorrow night, after which a lot of cuts will be made as the team starts to pare down towards the 23-player limit before the season starts next Wednesday.
