Deshaun Watson is ready to feel the love from Cleveland Browns fans as the team prepares for its home opener on Sunday against the Carolina Panthers.
The last time the Browns played at Huntington Bank Field was during the preseason. It was a memorable day as fans booed Watson, who later called the response “disrespectful” and “personal” before explaining that his reaction was borne out of emotions.

Now coming off a 23-19 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 2, and Watson playing one of his best games in a Browns uniform with 238 passing yards and two touchdowns, the quarterback is ready deliver more wins.
“I never try to go to war with the fans so the biggest thing is ready for support, ready to feel their energy, ready to get this big dub for the city of Cleveland and continue this great feeling that we have this week,” Watson said via 92.3 The Fan. “That’s my motto. Keep moving forward, finding ways to win on Sunday and take advantage of the opposing team and get a W.”
Watson did not want to revisit the reception he received during that preseason game against the Buffalo Bills. He said he’s looking forward and hoping to build off last week’s victory.

“We’ve passed that,” Watson said. “That’s back in the day. I don’t want to backtrack on anything. We’re moving forward, there’s great energy now, there’s great energy this week within the locker room, within this city, so let’s continue to build on that. That’s in the past, so let’s push forward. We’re present in the moment now. We’re focusing on Carolina, coming home against a good opponent in front of our great fans. We wanted that energy so we can go in there and get a W.”
The Browns will be right back to it following Sunday’s game against the Panthers. They will host the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday night before getting a few extra days of rest ahead of visiting the New York Jets in Week 5. Whether Watson remains the quarterback over the next few weeks will be determined by his play, especially with Shedeur Sanders waiting to get another opportunity under center.
