The longtime golf star, who know plays for LIV Golf, was ripped apart on social media for his behavior.

ESPN star Mike Greenberg suggested that Garcia have his lifetime exemption taken away as a result of his behavior at The Masters.

“A lifetime exemption is a privilege extended by Augusta to its champions out of respect. If that respect is not reciprocated, there is no law that says a past champ cannot be banned. I’m not sure they should have Sergio Garcia back after the garbage he pulled today,” he wrote on X.

Golf fans think that’s too extreme, though

While Garcia did receive a code of conduct warning from Masters officials, many golf fans think that a lifetime ban at The Masters would be too much.

“Really Mike? ESPN had Kelce and company go goofy, but now you’re talking about respecting Augusta,” one fan wrote.

“It’s funny how quickly people forget Tiger Woods antics around this place when not playing well. Don’t remember anyone saying he should be banned. Stick to the other sports Mike,” one fan added.

“Oh no, someone shows a little emotion in the no-personality world of golf. I’m not saying we need Happy Gilmore but give me a break dude,” one fan added.

“Understand your point but it would only invite a lot of whataboutism regarding the off course behavior of other past champions, of which there is quite a catalog. If you’re going to draw that line, you better make it count. This seems too small,” Dan Wolken added.

“Then they should kick Tiger out also for driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs! Let’s kick Angel Cabrera out for going to jail for 2 years for domestic assault. Come on!” one fan added.

“Stop it Greeny – it’s a golf course and that’s it. This reverence bestowed upon Augusta, the Masters and their beloved Chairman Ridley is exhausting. Love the course, but this hierarchy of what you can say and do is a tired act,” one fan added.

What is the appropriate punishment for McIlroy?
