It’s amateur season in golf and ESPN+ is stepping up to the plate.

The streaming service announced Thursday that it will have 12 hours of live, exclusive coverage of the 123rd Western Amateur Championship, one of the premiere am events in the U.S.

Skokie Country Club in Glencoe, Illinois, is the host venue in 2025, and the event started on Tuesday. The first two days featured 18 holes of stroke play. Thursday has 36 holes, after which the Round of 16 for the match-play portion of the event gets underway on Friday. And that’s when ESPN+ picks up the action.

What’s happened so far in the 2025 Western Amateur?

Tuesday featured a course-record round by Tyler Watts, who shot 8-under 62, breaking the eight-year-old record of John Pak, who shot a 63. That gave him a two-shot, 18-hole lead.

On Wednesday, Wells Williams and William Sides were tied for the lead at 7 under after 36 holes. The duo opened with 64s and then shot matching 69s on the second day.

The event began with 156 players, and a 36-hole cut was made to the low 44 and ties. The next cut will come Thursday night to the low 16.

What are the oldest amateur events in golf?

The Western Amateur is the third-oldest championship in golf. Only the British Amateur (1885) and the U.S. Amateur (1895) are more established.
