Scottish giants Rangers continue to struggle in the opening weeks of the 2025/26 SPL season with a 1-1 away draw against St Mirren.
Scorers: Ayunga 32′; Curtis 78′
On the hunt to bounce back away from home in the wake of a 3-1 midweek defeat against Club Brugge in Champions League qualifying, it was a frustrating day at the office for Russel Martin and company at St Mirren Park.
A laborious opening 45 minutes of action would ultimately see The Gers go one-nil down in the 32nd minute courtesy of a strike by Kenyan forward Jonah Ayunga.
Struggling to create enough meaningful chances throughout, Martin once again turned to Scottish youngster Findlay Curtis off the bench, and the 18-year-old stepped up to slam home his third goal of the season across all competitions in the 78th minute, moments after he was introduced as a substitute.
Jack Butland would produce a top-class save to deny Alexandros Gogic in stoppage time to tip the Cypriot’s effort over the bar while ensuring a point away from home.
It would be all that Rangers could muster on the day, plodding along to their third consecutive 1-1 draw in the league while already looking well and truly off the pace of bitter rivals Celtic, who sit top of the pile and six points clear.
