Ajax got back to winning ways today after a comfortable yet lackluster 2-0 win against visiting Heracles in Amsterdam.

Scorers: Berghuis 31′, Weghorst 87′

After starting the season in somewhat topsy-turvy fashion in the wake of an opening day win over Telstar, which was followed up by an away draw at Go Ahead Eagles, De Godenzonen got off to the right start in the 31st minute through captain Steven Berghuis.

The 33-year-old struck gold when a deflected effort on goal from Oscar Gloukh bounced in front of the midfielder, who slammed his effort home with ease.

It was a dominant display by the record Eredivisie winners, despite their inability to add a second on the scoresheet until the final minutes across a very one-sided fixture at Johan Cruyff Arena.

Their chances would ultimately shine through, though, with Wout Weghorst adding the insurance marker in the 87th minute to apply the postage stamp for the result in front of home support.

Collecting an expected three points would suffice, with Ajax now temporarily sitting third in the league table while trailing bitter rival PSV by just two points.
