Nakatani (30-0) is a multi-division world champion, holding gold at flyweight, super flyweight, and bantamweight. The 27-year-old has 23 wins via knockout and looks for his fourth successful defense of the WBC title.
A win could open various doors for Nakatani. He could compete for more gold at 118 or move on and face Naoya Inoue in a super fight. First, he must get past Nishida.
“That’s an advantage that [Inoue] has given me; he motivates me to fight better,” said Nakatani via Boxing News Online. “We’re ideally looking at around this time next year to fight Inoue, but a lot of things can happen [between now and then].
“For myself, I know that I have to take every fight seriously and keep winning, or else that fight may disappear. So I’m working very hard for each and every one of my fights coming up.”
Nishida (10-0) has quickly climbed up the ladder at bantamweight. The 28-year-old won the IBF title against Emmanuel Rodriguez in 2024 and looks for his second successful defense of the belt.
