Multiple titles are on the line, and several stars look to make statements when the UFC heads to Washington, D.C. on June 14, where an octagon will be on the White House lawn. UFC Freedom 250, on President Donald Trump’s birthday, celebrates 250 years of America.
In the main event, Ilia Topuria defends the UFC lightweight title against Justin Gaethje.
Topuria (17-0) is a two-division champion. He beat Alexander Volkanovski and Max Holloway at featherweight and Charles Oliveira at lightweight. The Georgian and Spanish fighter is back to competing after missing months due to a family matter.
The champion can either knock out an opponent or submit them. As dangerous as they come, Topuria looks for a masterful and violent performance on the White House lawn.
“I have the stamina to go not for five rounds, but for five days,” Topuria told UFC on Paramount+ via Sherdog. “I know how it feels when you’re tired, when you can’t do more, and you never give up. So I’m ready. But I have the complete faith that I am going to finish him in the first round. I just want to make it look beautiful.”
Gaethje (27-5) is the current interim lightweight champion. “The Highlight” has won multiple fight night bonuses and is known for brawling with his opponents. The former BMF champion is a massive underdog, but is ready to prove why he’s a future Hall of Famer.
“I am here for a reason,” Gaethje told Grind City Media via MMA Mania. “I’m here because I’m one of the best in the world. I am fighting a guy that is absolutely incredible, but I have a great coach, and we’re going to have a great plan. I’m going to change his face, just like I always do to all my opponents.”
The co-feature will see a massive heavyweight clash when Alex Pereira faces Ciryl Gane for the interim UFC heavyweight title. Meanwhile, Sean O’Malley, Derrick Lewis, Bo Nickal, Michael Chandler, and more compete on the card.
