Virginia pulled off a 46-38 double-overtime upset of No. 8 Florida State on Friday, the Cavaliers’ first win over a top-10 opponent since 2023. Quarterback Chandler Morris scrambled for a 4-yard touchdown and added a successful 2-point conversion in the second overtime to seal it.
Florida State nearly answered when Tommy Castellanos hit Duce Robinson for a 22-yard strike in the back of the end zone, but the catch was overturned after review. On the next play, Castellanos was intercepted in the end zone to end the game.
Virginia (4-1) had entered the night just 5-61-1 all-time against top-10 opponents, with two of those wins also coming against Florida State (1995, 2005). The Cavaliers improved to 29-0 over the past 10 seasons when leading by at least 14 points at home. Florida State has now dropped 22 straight games when trailing by multiple touchdowns.
Castellanos forced overtime with an 11-yard touchdown to tight end Randy Pittman Jr. with 37 seconds left in regulation. Earlier, the Cavaliers built a 14-0 lead before Florida State answered with 21 straight points. Morris later keyed scoring drives of 12 and 16 plays, including a 15-yard touchdown pass to Xavier Brown that put Virginia back in front in the fourth quarter.
Florida State (3-1) entered with the ACC’s third-best title odds (6/1) behind Miami and Georgia Tech, per FanDuel.
