WBC interim super welterweight champion Vergil Ortiz Jr., his manager Rick Mirigian and Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Promotions jointly announced Friday they have reached an amicable settlement to resolve all outstanding disputes and continue their working relationship.
A press release read:
“The agreement concludes the pending litigation and reaffirms the parties’ shared commitment to delivering the biggest fights to boxing fans around the world.”
After Golden Boy’s exclusive distribution relationship with its television partner DAZN expired at the conclusion of 2025, Ortiz asked a Nevada court in January to confirm his free agency and sued Golden Boy for breach of contract and interference with prospective economic advantage.

Golden Boy denied Ortiz’s claim to be free from his contract, but Ortiz continued to negotiate a fight with Jaron “Boots” Ennis without the involvement of De La Hoya’s company.

Golden Boy was initially granted a temporary restraining order against Ortiz in February — and it also filed suit against Mirigian for interfering with its exclusive promotional contract. Then its contractual rights were reaffirmed the following month, when Judge Cristina D. Silva granted its motion for interim injunctive relief and directed the parties to arbitration.
The court order forced negotiations for one of boxing’s most anticipated fights, Ortiz vs. Ennis, to screech to a halt. However, with Golden Boy concluding a new longterm deal with DAZN in recent months and Ortiz settling matters with his promoter, a fight between Ortiz and Ennis can now be revisited in the coming months.

WBC interim champion Ortiz has not fought since a second-round TKO win over Erickson Lubin last November.
“Our relationship with Vergil has spanned more than a decade, and we are proud to have played a role in his development into one of the sport’s premier fighters,” said Oscar De La Hoya, Chairman and CEO of Golden Boy. “We look forward to continuing our partnership and working together with Vergil Jr., Rick Mirigian and the rest of Team Ortiz to deliver the biggest fights possible for boxing fans.”
“I’m very grateful that Golden Boy and I were able to come to an understanding and resolve everything,” said Ortiz. “I’m excited to move forward and make the biggest fights happen, including the Ennis fight. My only focus is on delivering unforgettable fights for the fans, and I know my team and I will accomplish that together.”
