Alexander Volkanovski gets another shot at featherweight gold when he faces Diego Lopes at UFC 314 on April 12 for the UFC featherweight title. The fight and event is at the Kaseya Center.
A former UFC featherweight champion, Volkanovski (26-4) defended the title five times, beating Max Holloway three times while taking out several top contenders. The Aussie lost the belt against Ilia Topuria via knockout, his second straight loss via the power punch after attempting to fight for lightweight gold.
Volkanovski hasn’t fought for over a year but got a title fight after Topuria relinquished the belt to move up in weight. A win will enhance his legacy while bringing him back to the top of the UFC’s rankings.
Lopes (26-6) is on a five-fight win streak following a short-notice debut fight against Movsar Evloev, which he lost. His last contest was a decision win in September against Brian Ortega. Lopes has improved his craft in every fight in the octagon since his debut and is ready to continue that trend against Volkanovski.

“I think (Volkanovski) might go in there and look to do a mix of his game because a lot of people are still complaining that I might not have cardio for five rounds,” Lopes told Habelmos MMA via MMA Junkie.
“People are still hanging on to what happened in the fight against Dan Ige, that I slowed down. But that’s OK. People have mouths, and they’ll say whatever they want. I’m ready for Volkanovski’s best version, and I’m ready to show my best version.”
The co-main event will see the popular Paddy Pimblett face off against former Bellator champion Michael Chandler. Speaking of Bellator, former champion Patricio “Pitbull” Freire makes his UFC debut against Yair Rodriguez.
