Another film in the world of mixed martial arts is on the way.

Zack Snyder has partnered with the UFC to direct an action-drama which steps slightly outside the bounds of what he is used to.

‘Brawler’ will depict a young fighter dealing with his demons and battling for redemption as he navigates his way from the streets of Los Angeles to a UFC title shot, according to the producers.

Best known for comic book adaptation films like Watchmen, 300, and the DC Extended Universe, Snyder certainly has experience in the genre.

Yet his most recent projects, the first two-thirds of his planned Rebel Moon science fiction trilogy, were not well received.

This movie will join a recent flurry of major motion pictures set in the combat sports world, alongside last year’s ‘Roadhouse’ remake, ONE Championship’s upcoming ‘The Beast in Me’, and the recently released Mark Kerr biopic, ‘The Smashing Machine’.

Snyder’s primary allies in breaking into the combat sports world for ‘Brawler’, Turki Alalshikh and UFC CEO Dana White, also recently announced their own partnership for a new boxing promotion, TKO Boxing.

Alalshikh, Chairman of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority, also recently purchased Ring Magazine as part of his push to make Saudi Arabia a force in sports entertainment.

Snyder and his wife, Deborah Snyder, as well as Wesley Coller will produce ‘Brawler’ through their Stone Quarry company, with Turki Alalshikh and UFC chief content chief Craig Borsari as executive producers.

The screenplay is being written by Snyder as well, who is teaming up with Shay Hatten and Kurt Johnstad, the latter of whom often collaborates with Snyder, including on 300 and Rebel Moon.
