In the world of golf, few players have absolutely transcended the sport over the decades. Tiger Woods was the most notable, but players like Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, and Gary Player hold a special place in golf history.
It appears that we can add Scottie Scheffler to that list as well.
On Sunday, Scheffler capped off a dominant Open Championship, shooting 17-under par and winning by four strokes, cruising to his fourth major championship win. It was Scheffler’s fourth win of the 2025 season, and his second major victory, alongside the PGA Championship.
With the victory, Scheffler put himself in rarified air, also joining Tiger Woods with an incredible stat.

Scheffler’s first major win came at The Masters Tournament on April 10, 2022, and his fourth came on July 20, 2025. In comparison, Woods’ first major win came at The Masters on April 13, 1997, and his fourth came on July 23, 2000.
Ironically, both of those occurrences happened 1,197 days apart.
The only difference between the two in accordance to this stat, though, is that Tiger’s fourth major victory — The Open Championship — gave him the completion of the career grand slam. Scheffler is still searching for a win in the U.S. Open, which would complete his career grand slam.
He will have a chance to complete the slam next June at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southampton, New York. Should he accomplish that, Scheffler would join an elite group of players to complete the grand slam: Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods, and Rory McIlroy.
