Scottie Scheffler chasing Rory McIlroy, Justin Thomas

There was only one major change in position on the PGA Tour money list after the CJ Cup Byron Nelson May 1-4.

Winner Scottie Scheffler, with a $1,782,000 first-place check, moved from seventh to third on the money list and has $6,711,197 to close in on second-place Justin Thomas, who did not play at TPC Craig Ranch.

Rory McIlroy still reigns supreme on top of the cash pile with more than $13 million, and he can put some distance on Thomas and Scheffler at this week’s Truist Championship, a PGA Tour Signature Event with a total purse of $20 million ($3.6 million for the winner).

A week later will be the PGA Championship at Quail Hollow, the season’s second major championship. Last year’s purse was $18.5 million, which means at least $38.5 million is up for grabs if the PGA of America keeps the same payout.

Only one other player among the top 30 on the money list entering the CJ Cup was Sungjae Im. He tied for 33rd but remained right where he started, in 15th place.

No other players in the CJ Cup Byron Nelson cracked the top 30.
