Verdansk is finally coming back to Call of Duty: Warzone after a long time. The classic map is just around the corner, and is bringing with it a ton of new and old content that are bound to rustle some memories hiding at the back of your head.
Activision provided us with a massive breakdown of the Warzone season 3 roadmap, so here’s everything you need to know about it, including the Verdansk release date, new weapons, and a lot more features.
Warzone season 3 release date and time
The classic 2020 Warzone map, “painstakingly rebuilt from the ground up,” is making a return to Call of Duty with the launch of Warzone season three on April 3, 9am PT / 11am CT. Here’s a countdown timer to help you easily track the new season’s launch:
Warzone will completely shut down for 24 hours after the launch of Black Ops 6 Multiplayer and Zombies on April 2, 9am PT. At the same time, a 24-hour free trial for Multiplayer and Zombies will be accessible to all.
Activision promises that players who played on Verdansk before should immediately recognize it, with the map retaining its classic looks, all with the goal of reliving “the classic and nostalgic Verdansk map we all remember.”
Around “five percent” of the map has been given “light adjustments” and “quality-of-life improvements,” and is set to feature numerous additions it received while it was still getting seasonal updates in Modern Warfare 2019. Most of the changes to the map seem to be graphical and cosmetic, with the vast majority of the new Verdansk being the spitting image of the original one.
Mechanically, it is also set to feature much of what it had when MW2019 was still live, including circle behavior, original game mechanics like supply boxes, floating loot, and many others retained as if they’d never been removed in the first place. The new map will also be populated with 150 players, making it a true showdown for the ages.
Warzone 2019 weapons are making a comeback
Alongside all of the above, numerous weapons, perks, and items are making a major comeback with the return of Verdansk. The Kilo 141 and CR-56 AMAX assault rifles as well as the HDR sniper rifle and Kali Sticks melee will be part of the event rewards both in Warzone and CoD proper.
The Thermite lethal equipment is also coming back, giving players the chance to experience Warzone as it once was in full capacity. Old field upgrades and items that haven’t been in the game for a while are back, while existing ones were readjusted to reflect how Warzone used to be. The Munitions Box, Armor Box, Heartbeat Sensor, and other field upgrades are going to be part of the new Verdansk, as will the UAV, Advanced UAV, Precision Airstrike, Cluster Strike, and Bunker Buster killstreaks.
Warzone season 3 modes
Those of us who’ve seen what Warzone was like in March 2020 know the following modes quite well, but they’re bound to be exciting new adventures for players who missed out on the golden age of Battle Royales. The modes coming with Verdansk are the following:
- Standard Battle Royale (150 players, 25-minute matches)
- Casual Battle Royale (148 players and bots, up to 120 bots)
- Rebirth Resurgence (44 players, 15-minute matches)
- Plunder Quads (100 players, 20-minute matches)
- Warzone Bootcamp (44 players [12 humans, 32 bots], 15-minute matches)
- Ranked Battle Royale (150 players, trio, mid-season)
- High Trip Resurgence (mid-season)
With so many options to choose from, it seems every type of player will have a chance to experience Verdansk in their own way. Both across the map and its Gulag, one of the most iconic locations in gaming history, players will be given all the tools necessary to truly relive the good old days.
More is on the way on launch and mid-season
Activision has promised a massive content drop with season three’s initial launch, but that won’t be the end of it. More mid-season content will come to Warzone and CoD, the former set to receive numerous contracts, field upgrades, items, touch-ups, and a whole lot more.
