It’s now very apparent where Mohamed Salah will go after leaving Liverpool.
Departures in football are commonstance, but there are some that feel far more poignant.
Salah’s departure feels like the end of something special, the end of an entire era at Anfield that made us all believe anything was impossible.

For Liverpool supporters, this is not just about losing a world-class player. It’s about saying goodbye to the face of a generation, a footballer who helped define one of the most successful and emotionally resonant periods in the club’s modern history.
From his explosive debut season to years of relentless consistency, Salah became a symbol of excellence at Anfield – someone kids looked up to and someone who fans wanted to watch week in, week out.
His departure now represents the dismantling of a core that brought Liverpool back to the pinnacle of European and English football. Alongside teammates and under Jürgen Klopp, Salah was central to an era defined by belief, intensity, and silverware. Now there are barely any of them left at Anfield.
And while new chapters will be written in this new era, replacing what Salah meant to Liverpool, both on and off the pitch, will be almost impossible.

The next question then becomes, why now?
Why has Salah decided to announce his decision in this moment? It is it to bow out on his own accord? To give Liverpool fans an opportunity to say his farewell?
And secondly, why have Liverpool agreed to let him go? He’s still their most prized asset, why not sell him? Why let him go on a free contract and scrap the last year of his deal.
It feels like an extraordinary decision, especially because Saudi Pro League clubs would have been willing to pay hefty sums in order to land his services this summer.
It’s why, Salah’s next destination has just become obvious. Surely, there would have been an amicable separation in the summer if Salah was to say his farewell and join the Saudi league.

Unless, this is not his intention.
Salah still has major aspirations. He’s an influential player, who isn’t fading out of the game as much as some Liverpool fans want to believe.
Last season, Salah was the best player on the planet. Why would he want to go to Saudi Arabia so soon?
He’s still got more to give. And that is why the way he’s leaving has pretty much given all of us a glimpse into which direction he’s leaning towards.
If he wanted to go to Saudi, he didn’t need to have Liverpool agree to scrap his contract. Liverpool would have let him go for a fee.
But if he wanted to go to a European club, most of them would have been unwilling to pay a fee, and therefore he would have been forced to go to one of the Saudi clubs.

By Liverpool letting him go, Salah now has a lot more opportunities.
And it’s why it’s now clear that he won’t be going to Saudi, he’ll be heading to Europe to continue his career at the highest level.
