Michael Brennan has admitted that he put too much pressure on himself ahead of the final round of the 3M Open before he tumbled down the leaderboard on Sunday at TPC Twin Cities.
Brennan has a golden opportunity to win for a second time on the PGA Tour this week. The 24-year-old is one shot off the lead heading into the last round of the Rocket Classic.

He will surely feel that he should be level with Davis Riley with 18 holes to play, having spent much of Saturday leading the way at Detroit Golf Club.
However, an unnecessary bogey on the last hole of his third round has left Brennan one shot adrift.

It has only been a week since the youngster was last in the mix to win on the PGA Tour. Brennan was four shots behind Jackson Koivun heading into the last round of the 3M Open.
A 63 on Saturday suggested that Brennan had lots of momentum. However, he ended up being 11 shots worse off on Sunday to finish in a tie for 24th.

The result also saw Brennan miss the chance to fly up the FedEx Cup standings. He actually dropped down one place to 106th.

And after his superb third round in Michigan, Brennan discussed what he learned from what happened at the 3M Open.
“Yeah, I got ahead of myself last week for sure. It’s tough with the Playoffs looming and I’m outside of the top-70 right now. I probably put a little bit too much pressure on that and got out of my system and got in my way a little bit too much. Definitely was helpful, and I’m looking forward to going at it again tomorrow,” he said.

Brennan certainly had to battle on the back nine on Saturday at Detroit Golf Club. He had looked set to take charge of the tournament around the turn having made five birdies and no bogeys on his front nine.

But he was much more wayward off the tee on the back nine and had to produce some outstanding iron and wedge shots.
With the likes of Rickie Fowler and Cameron Young in the chasing pack, Brennan is probably going to need to be at his very best if he hopes to get across the line on Sunday.
And he went on to explain how he intends to approach the final round of the Rocket Classic.
“Yeah, just trying to stay where my feet are and kind of have incremental goals. I like to set three-hole goals and just try to hit those as best I can, not think about anything that’s going on and really focus on what I’m able to control,” he said.

The last two weeks have certainly handed Brandt Snedeker a big boost ahead of the Presidents Cup, with Koivun winning the 3M Open and Brennan in the mix once again.
If Brennan is in contention late into Sunday’s final round in Detroit, he will surely be another youngster in the conversation for a spot on Snedeker’s team at Medinah.
