HIGH POINT UNIVERSITYWOMEN’S SOCCER EARNS NO. 2 SEED, BYE IN BIG SOUTH TOURNEY
HIGH POINT — High Point University will be the No. 2 seed in the Big South Conference women’s soccer tournament and will play in the semifinals next week in Mattews.
USC Upstate earned its first-ever regular-season title and will be the top seed. It went 5-1-2 in the conference, totaling 17 points and a 2.13 average (because three matches couldn’t be played due to Hurricane Helene, the conference used a system of average points). The Panthers followed with a 5-2-1 mark and a 2.00 average.
Both teams will skip the first round, which will be played Saturday at the higher seeds. They will play Thursday, Nov. 7, in the semifinals at the Matthews Sportsplex — the Panthers will play in the 7 p.m. match. Upstate will play at 4.
High Point will either play No. 3 Radford (3-1-3, 1.71) or No. 6 UNC Asheville (2-4, 1.00). Upstate will face either No. 4 Longwood (3-2-3, 1.50) or No. 5 Presbyterian (2-2-3, 1.29). The championship will be decided Sunday, Nov. 10, at 1 p.m. in Matthews.
