LIV Golf seem to have all sorts of issues right now, with their future completely uncertain.

Rumors began two weeks ago now that LIV Golf faced an uncertain future.

Then, just last week, LIV Golf’s backers – Saudi Arabia’s PIF – announced that they would be withdrawing funding from the league from the end of the 2026 season onwards.

Everyone was shocked by the news, even the LIV Golf players, who believed they were to receive funding from PIF through the 2032 season.

PIF released a statement confirming their plans to pull out of funding LIV Golf as soon as the current season ends.

And that obviously threw every LIV golfer’s future into doubt. Nobody knows right now whether LIV Golf will even be here next year.

But what have the players been told?

LIV golfers Thomas Detry blasts leadership for ‘poor communication’

Thomas Detry was one of LIV Golf’s biggest signings during the off-season. He won the WM Phoenix Open on the PGA Tour last year by seven strokes, so it was a fairly big coup by LIV to get him signed up.

He has been speaking to Beyond The Clubhouse ahead of LIV Golf Virginia this week.

The 33-year-old Belgian responded when asked how he rates the recent communication from LIV leadership after PIF’s shock announcement.

I’m not going to lie, I think the communication has been pretty poor, you know, Detry exclaimed.

It’s been pretty poor because nobody really knows, you know?

And I do think that some of the stuff is out of their control, out of control of the LIV leadership, you know, it comes from even way above that.

So, yeah, it hasn’t been easy for them to deal with everything, and it hasn’t been easy for us as well.

But, I’m fully supportive of the whole thing.

You know, I think the players need to stand behind the whole thing as well. Now is the time for this whole league and for every player out here to show cohesion and support for this whole thing, you know?

I mean, I think now is the moment where we — it’s not the right time to have ego-centric people just going their way.

I think if everybody stands for each other, and we all give this thing full support, I think it’s gonna go a long way.

Thomas Detry responds to Thomas Pieters’ retirement claim

LIV Golf star Thomas Pieters suggested that he could retire, if the league does indeed fold.

He insisted that he has no interest in returning to the PGA Tour.

However, Detry poured cold water on his good friend’s comments.

I mean Thomas never really had a proper card, Detry said.

I think in 2016, maybe he had a category on the PGA Tour, but he never really properly played that there, you know, he sort of played half a schedule.

I think he had a couple of invites like at Bay Hill, because he was top-50 in the world, but he never really had a proper schedule.

So, listen, it’s his way of saying things.

I know Thomas. He is one of my best friends and he’s fundamentally very competitive.

So, I don’t see him sitting back on his sofa, just watching golf.

I think he’s going to stay competitive for the rest of his life and he’s definitely not retiring if this thing is, um, well, whatever.
