New Philadelphia 76ers star LeBron James is expanding his reach beyond basketball, and his latest venture takes him from the hardwood to the golf course.

James has launched a YouTube channel centered on golf, debuting the project with a video lasting more than 90 minutes that chronicles a June golf trip to Scotland with several members of the 2016 Cleveland Cavaliers championship team.

The reunion included Kevin Love, J.R. Smith, Richard Jefferson, Tristan Thompson and Channing Frye, bringing together key members of the group that delivered Cleveland one of the most memorable championships in NBA history.

That Cavaliers team overcame a 3-1 deficit against the Golden State Warriors in the 2016 NBA Finals, ending Cleveland’s 52-year major professional sports championship drought.

James trades the hardwood for the fairway in surprising new venture

James’ new channel plans to combine golf with travel, food and conversations with friends while showcasing some of the world’s most notable courses.

“Come for the game, stay for the great local food, wine, and a whole lot of laughs along the way,” the channel’s first video description reads.

James has become increasingly interested in golf and has indicated that his ambitions involving the sport extend beyond entertainment.

Speaking at the CNBC Sport x Boardroom Game Plan Summit in July, James said he wants to help introduce golf to children from inner-city communities who traditionally may not have easy access to courses, equipment or instruction.

“My goal is to open doors for kids that look like me growing up in the inner city,” James said.

The golf venture comes during another major transition for James.

After considering a return to Cleveland during the offseason, James ultimately signed with the Philadelphia 76ers, a decision he has described as the final free-agent choice of his NBA career.

Now, as the future Hall of Famer begins his Philadelphia chapter, James is also building something away from basketball — one golf course at a time.
