Daytona Motor Mouths: NASCAR to rotate championship race host sites
The guys talk about NASCAR changing its championship race location, Joey Logano’s win at slippery Texas, the upcoming weekend at Kansas and more.
- Kyle Larson dominated at Kansas Speedway, leading a record number of laps en route to his third victory of the 2025 NASCAR Cup Series season.
No, it wasn’t as close as last year.
But the result of the NASCAR Cup Series spring race at Kansas Speedway stayed the same: a Kyle Larson victory.
Imagine that.
Larson, the betting favorite, won the AdventHealth 400 by 0.712 seconds over runner-up Christopher Bell on May 11. During this race last year, Larson and Chris Buescher provided the closest finish in NASCAR history with a margin of 0.001 seconds.
Ryan Blaney, Chase Briscoe and Alex Bowman rounded out the top five.
Here are three takeaways:
1. Kyle Larson dominates for third win of 2025 NASCAR Cup Series season
More domination for Larson. And more history.
The 32-year-old set a track record for laps led with 221. He also bucked a trend, snapping a string of five straight Kansas races where the leader in laps led did not finish first.
Larson claimed Stage 1 and Stage 2.
“Great car, great execution today for our team,” Larson said. “… Glad to not win by an inch right here this time. Little bit safer gap. Thanks again to the team.”
He has placed in the top five in seven of the 12 races so far, including in each of the last four.
Check out this streak. His last four races: first, second, fourth, first.
That’s pretty good.
2. Brad Keselowski enjoyed bounce-back performance. Until…
On Lap 195, Brad Keselowski was running second behind only Chase Elliott, and he was gaining ground.
Then, Keselowski’s rough stretch continued.
He blew a right rear tire entering Turn 1. That put his No. 6 Ford into the wall and brought out a caution. He was towed to the garage, ending his day.
“It was a good day. It was going to be a great day,” Keselowski said. “I felt like we had a shot to win with the Allegra Ford Mustang. Pretty car. It’s not pretty anymore.
“I didn’t really have much of a warning. I just went into Turn 1. I heard a big boom, and around it went. It’s unfortunate. We’re playing to win, and we were right in the spot to do that. It didn’t come together.”
In his first 12 races this season, Keselowski has not recorded a top-10. He’s only cracked the top 25 three times.
3. Hey now, you’re an All-Star (race at North Wilkesboro Speedway)
Next up: All-Star Weekend!
For the third consecutive season, NASCAR’s All-Star showcase will take place at North Wilkesboro Speedway. The historic 0.625-mile track in North Wilkesboro, North Carolina, dates back to 1947. It was given new big-league life in 2023, hosting the Cup Series for the first time in 27 years.
The All-Star Race will feature 250 laps. It is scheduled for 8 p.m. on May 18.
