Although Khabib Nurmagomedov beat Conor McGregor six years ago, the two global mixed martial arts stars have never reconciled their differences.

With as much hate as these two men have for each other, it comes as no surprise to see ‘The Eagle’ taking to Twitter to lambast McGregor following the latter being found civilly liable for rape in Irish court.

His latest post is a quote tweet of a post from an account called ‘ConvictMcGregor’ (@convictmcg) which promotes a new crypto coin called $Convict. Khabib says they “have [his] full support,” but has likely not done his due diligence on its legitimacy. His manager, Ali Abdelaziz, is also known to frequently post from Nurmagomedov’s/ account.

The creator purports that all funds from this token will go directly to lawyer fees for the victims of Conor McGregor (at present there are three other sexual assault accusers).

This sounds like a noble purpose, helping women have the resources to bring their attacker to justice. However, the cryptocurrency community has long been known for being a hotbed of scams, with many creators pulling the rug out from investors and taking all their money.

Khabib is no stranger to that sort of controversy. Just last year the Dagestani fighter promoted an NFT project based around the premise that holders of the digital images would be able to mine Bitcoin and attend private events online hosted by Nurmagomedov. Fans instantly decried that as a scam.

Coffeezilla, a famous YouTuber who exposes scams, replied to Khabib by saying, “If you need money this bad, why not step back in the ring instead of scamming your fans?”

The NFTs definitely exist, but it is unclear if the promises were fulfilled. Nurmagomedov has not posted publicly about private events since then and the link he provided to purchase the digital items now redirects to the homepage of the GMT website, where Khabib’s name is not found.

Regardless, fans and those who want to help victims should be aware that buying a sketchy cryptocurrency (often referred to as s***coins) is unlikely to help anyone but the owner of the project.

Nikita Hand, the woman Conor McGregor sexually assaulted, appears in court this week to determine who will be responsible for her estimated €1.5 million in lawyer fees. If McGregor is ordered to pay then the cryptocurrency would be irrelevant regardless unless another accuser takes him to court.
