Joey Logano shared an optimistic take on NASCAR’s new rules for Superspeedway racing. Logano believes the updated package may revive ‘the old Daytona’.
NASCAR recently announced a shorter rear spoiler for the Coke Zero Sugar 400 at Daytona, reducing its height from seven inches to four inches. The new setup will reduce drag and improve single-run speeds by 2-3 mph, but will remain the same under pack racing.

Horsepower is also getting reduced from 510 to 465 to afford the lower downforce. The goal is to do away with fuel-mileage racing that relies on running half throttle to maintain track position.
On the latest episode of Door Bumper Clear, Logano reflected on the new changes, saying,
“I’m sure it’ll look a little bit more like the old Daytona from years and years ago before they repaved it. I don’t know if it’ll go that extreme or not, and what it’ll look like, but yeah, there’s a lot of unknowns.”
“And how you set the car up and all those things too, on top of it is what are you going to need? It goes back to Atlanta where you sit there, and you go, do you want downforce or do you want to drag out? What’s going to matter the most?,” he added via On3.
Joey Logano’s Daytona 500 result remains one of his bright spots this season. He finished a respectable third, before fading to middling results that placed him on the Chase bubble.
The No.22 driver currently stands 15th with seven top-10s in 21 starts. His win at North Wilkesboro Speedway brought him inside the Chase cutoff by a narrow margin. Notably, Logano is trailed by his Team Penske teammate Austin Cindric.

Joey Logano was one of the most-hated drivers during the playoffs era. Many believe his 2024 championship triggered discussions of a new format.
Team Penske had perfected the elimination-style format and won three straight titles from 2022 onwards, of which Logano claimed two. The former champion, however, stands to lose his spot in the 16-driver Chase this year.
Reflecting upon the same, Logano said (via Youtube/Dirty Mo Media),
“We showed up when it mattered the most and won three championships. Don’t hate me for that. Those are the rules and we play by the rules. And now the rules are different and we got to change our ways a little bit. So far this year we haven’t.”
Joey Logano has five races to secure his Chase spot. Next up, he heads to Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the Brickyard 400.

Logano hasn’t won a race at the famed track and has finished outside the top-30 in both his outings in the Next Gen Era.
