Jake Paul is the real deal.
For a long time, skeptics have wondered whether the YouTube star is a for-real boxer.
The answer continues to be delivered by his performance in the ring. He beat Julio Cesar Chavez over the weekend to improve to 12-1 in his career.
And overnight Monday into Tuesday, Paul received an official world ranking. The World Boxing Association ranks Paul No. 14 in the cruiserweight division.
With that ranking comes a legitimate possibility: Paul is now eligible to challenge for the cruiserweight world title.
Currently No. 1 in that weight class: Gilberto ‘Zurdo’ Ramirez.
There’s no indication yet as to whether Paul would want to challenge for such an opportunity soon, or down the road, or never.
But it’s another sign that this boxing thing isn’t only a publicity stunt for Paul. He was plenty popular already. He didn’t need boxing for that.
Instead, the ring has come a place for Paul to embrace his doubters and prove them wrong. And with each bit of positive boxing news that keeps coming Paul’s way, that’s exactly what he’s doing.
