The Islanders and veteran LW Matt Martin have agreed to a one-year deal, the team announced Saturday.

Martin, 35, will enter his 16th NHL season when he takes the ice. It will be his 14th year with the Islanders after the team originally drafted him in the fifth round of the 2008 NHL Draft.

He spent two seasons with the Toronto Maple Leafs from 2016-2018.

Over 955 career games with the Islanders and Maple Leafs, Martin has amassed 176 points (81 goals and 95 assists). He is also the active all-time hits leader in NHL history with 3,854.

Martin won six Bob Nystrom Awards (2012-2016) and (2019-20) during his tenure in New York. The award is given to the Islander who best exemplifies leadership, hustle and dedication.

The move to bring back Martin comes after the team placed Anthony Duclair (lower body) on LTIR, retroactive to Oct. 19. The Isles said Thursday that Duclair will miss 4-6 weeks with the injury. Additionally, Liam Foudy has been loaned to Bridgeport, while Pierre Engvall and Hudson Fasching have been recalled from loan.

New York is off to a 3-2-2 start to the 2024-25 season and will take on the defending Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers on Saturday night at UBS Arena.
