GREENSBORO, N.C. — Harry Higgs got a good kick — and then some — and took advantage of his fortuitous bounce.
At the par-5 15th hole at Sedgefield Country Club, Higgs, who made the cut on the number and started on the back nine on Saturday in the third round, had 214 yards to the green and overcooked a hybrid.
His ball crashed into the grandstand behind the green and ricocheted back onto the putting surface, stopping 3 feet from the hole. Higgs made good use of the grandstand being positioned in close range to the green and rolled in the eagle putt. [Note to tournament organizers: let’s make sure this can’t happen again.]
It’s whether Higgs called the bank shot but props to him for making the most of it. Fly, eagle, fly!
