The best NASCAR Cup Series drivers are showing their best talents for one of the sport’s most coveted races.

The Coca-Cola 600 is running at Charlotte Motor Speedway in one of the four crown jewel events for the NASCAR Cup Series.

Fans will be attending the race in droves, including several first-time fans.

Here is what to know for first-time NASCAR fans making their way to the speedway.

Do not forget sunscreen!

The bulk of the Coca-Cola 600 happens at night, but the few hours of prerace and the early stages of the race happen in the daylight. Make sure to bring sunscreen, getting a sunburn at a NASCAR race is painful.

Hit those merchandise haulers

Near the fan zone, there are merchandise haulers with all kinds of items for sale. Anything from hats, t-shirts, flags, pens, pencils and, of course, diecast cars, are available in these haulers. The haulers are separated by race team (for example, Hendrick Motorsports is in one hauler with Chase Elliott, Kyle Larson, William Byron and Alex Bowman merchandise).

There are concession stands and food trucks around the speedway. Make sure to look around and find your favorites to enjoy at the racetrack. The Coca-Cola 600 is a long race; you’ll want to make sure to get yourself fueled up to see the whole race.

Get to your seat early for Coca-Cola 600 NASCAR Charlotte race

You’ll want to make sure to get to your seat pretty early, give yourself some time to relax and enjoy the patriotic displays and wonderful views before the racing action begins. There will also be lots of standing, including for every restart, a few laps after, and as the race is coming to a close.

Don’t be alarmed, there will be a stoppage halfway through the Coca-Cola 600. This is a moment of silence to honor fallen soldiers during Memorial Day weekend.

Can I bring cooler, food, alcohol to Charlotte Motor Speedway?

Yes, coolers are allowed. They must be a soft-sided cooler no bigger than 14-inches by 14-inches by 14-inches. Backpacks and bags no bigger than 18-inches by 18-inches by 14-inches are allowed. Food and alcohol are allowed, but no glass containers.

Know prohibited items at Charlotte Motor Speedway

The following items are not allowed at Charlotte Motor Speedway. These can change, so make sure to keep an eye on the Charlotte Motor Speedway website.

  • All bags must be no larger than 14″x14″x14″
  • No umbrellas of any kind are allowed in the grandstands, suites or The Speedway Club
  • No glass containers
  • Strollers are allowed inside the gates, but are not allowed in the grandstands
  • No pets, except service animals
  • No weapons, including, but not limited to, firearms, knives and impact weapons
  • No skateboards, roller skates or scooters
  • No bicycles, mopeds, etc.
  • No beach balls, balloons, etc.
  • No signs or banners
  • No horns, whistles or other loud items
  • No stadium seats with arm rests
  • Due to safety concerns fans are not allowed to have or operate any multi-passenger vehicle (motorized or self-propelled) inside spectator gates.
  • Other items that in the judgment of Charlotte Motor Speedway personnel pose a safety hazard or may diminish the enjoyment of other fans may be prohibited.

Is Charlotte Motor Speedway a cashless venue?

Yes, Charlotte Motor Speedway is a cashless venue. No cash will be accepted at concession stands, souvenir shops or other vendors within the speedway. Credit and debit cards, along with mobile payment options (including Apple Pay), will be accepted.
