The automotive industry is constantly evolving. It needs ideas from young designers and engineers to deliver new and interesting products. Concepts can sometimes provide a peek at the cars we could be driving one day, and students can create some fascinating designs that truly feel like something out of the future—and one did just that with his edgy Hyundai concept.

It’s called the Obsidian, and it looks like something out of the retro-inspired sci-fi future promised in the 1980s. Its wedge-shaped face feels like a natural evolution of the Ioniq 5 a decade or two from now, integrating the brand’s pixel lights across the flat front.

The rest of the Obsidian looks like it’s designed to maximize cabin space. It has a flat roof that ends in a hatchback, which should provide plenty of headroom for passengers. According to Korean Car Blog, transportation student Dominik Anders designed the vehicle with Hyundai’s support.

It looks as stunning as other recent Hyundai concepts, and it fits alongside other lookers like the Hyundai Grandeur and Pony Coupe concepts. Sadly, this is just a design concept highlighted as part of the Car Design Event 2025 in Munich, which showcased other concepts from Hyundai, like the Initium concept, and from other automakers.

Hopefully Hyundai’s designers take note. Because we love this thing.
