Colonial Country Club has been the site for PGA Tour’s Fort Worth stop since 1946

  • The Charles Schwab Challenge, also known as “The Colonial,” is being held at Colonial Country Club for the 78th time.
  • Scottie Scheffler, ranked number one in the world, is among the contenders.
  • The tournament purse is $9.5 million, with the winner receiving $1.71 million and 500 FedEx Cup points.

The PGA Tour steps back into history this week with the Charles Schwab Challenge.

To golf fans in Fort Worth, it will always be simply, “The Colonial.”

The Schwab Challenge began in 1946 as the Colonial National Invitational, named for the Colonial Country Club that hosted the event and has remained one of the most venerable sites on the PGA Tour. This will be the 78th playing of the tournament, all at the John Bredemus and Perry Maxwell design.

World Golf Hall of Fame member Ben Hogan’s name is synonymous with the course and the tournament. He won the tournament five times, including the first two and four of the first seven. Fourteen other Hall of Fame members have won at Colonial, including Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Phil Mickelson, Billy Casper and Sam Snead.

Colonial, a par-70 course, is noted for its narrow, tree-lined fairways, making driving the ball straight a premium. It was the second-most difficult course on the PGA Tour last year for a non-major course, behind only The Memorial.

In other words, the winner will have to have controlled his ball, especially off the tee. World No. 1-ranked Scottie Scheffler, who won the PGA last week, leaps to mind as one of the leading contenders.

Also in the field are 2025 Tour winners Andrew Novak, Hideki Matsuyama, Harris English, Brian Harman and Ben Griffin.
