According to body camera footage released April 2 by the Martin County Sheriff’s Office, Woods was seen talking on a phone as he was approached by police immediately after the rollover crash that led to his arrest.

After he got off the phone, he told an officer he was “just talking to the president.”

It was unclear if Woods was talking to Trump, who hours after the incident had landed aboard Air Force One in Miami for a conference. The news of Woods’ arrest had been made public by that time.

“He’s got some difficulty. There was an accident, and that’s all I know,” Trump said from Miami when asked about Woods. “Very close friend of mine. He’s an amazing person. Amazing man. But some difficulty. I don’t want to talk about it.”

Woods does have a relationship with Trump, even if they are not close friends, as Trump noted.

Woods, 50, is currently dating Vanessa Trump, the ex-wife of Donald Trump Jr., Woods and Trump have golfed together, as Woods’ Jupiter Island home is only about 30 miles north of Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home and club.
