Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson has not played since an Oct. 7, 2024, game against the Bengals when he initially tore his right Achilles.
He will start for the team in the season opener Sunday, but nothing is promised to him beyond that game.

“Me being in my last year of my deal, and being year 10, I feel like this is my opportunity to get up there and go and showcase that I can still play in this league,” Watson said, via Talia Naquin of Fox 8. “And I want to continue to play in this league. So, this is my opportunity to do that.”
Watson, 30, missed all of 2025 after tearing his right Achilles a second time and requiring another surgery in January 2025. He has played only 19 games over the past five seasons because of suspension and injury.
His fully guaranteed, five-year, $230 million contract, signed in March 2022 after a trade from Houston, expires after this season.
“I can’t focus on the future. I’ve got to focus on now,” Watson said. “All I can do is control these moments now, these opportunities I have now.”
