Anthony Volpe is returning to the Yankees.
According to YES Network’s Jack Curry, in a corresponding move to placing Jazz Chisholm Jr. on the IL, New York will recall Volpe to the major league roster. The infielder will join the team Thursday while Chisholm is available to pinch-run Wednesday, per Curry.

Volpe, 25, was optioned to Triple-A back in early August after struggling offensively and defensively to make way for George Lombard Jr. at shortstop.
In 56 games with the Yankees this season, Volpe was slashing .240/.325/.332 with an OPS of .647 and just one home run after starting the season on the IL after undergoing offseason shoulder surgery that affected Volpe’s play in 2025.
Ahead of Wednesday’s game against the Rockies, manager Aaron Boone said he was confident putting Volpe at second base if needed.
“I know he’s been a complete pro and completely got after it down there in everything they’ve thrown at him,” Boone said of Volpe. “Whether it’s moving and playing some second base, obviously introducing some third base to him, making sure his swing is dialed in, and he’s obviously swung the bat incredibly well. That’s not an easy thing to do when you’ve been the guy in the big leagues and you gotta go back.”

To Volpe’s credit, the youngster has produced well in the minors. In 37 games with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, Volpe is slashing .264/.345/.561 with an OPS of .906 to go along with his 11 home runs and 26 RBI.
