Denny Hamlin isn’t one who shies away from sharing what’s on his mind. He does just that weekly on his “Actions Detrimental” podcast. He also shares his opinions when talking with reporters at the track each race weekend.
On Saturday at Talladega, the Joe Gibbs Racing driver met with the media and answered a variety of questions, including what he thought of the news this past week about the upcoming All-Star Race and a format change that includes a “Promoter’s Caution,” which allows a competition yellow to be displayed at any point during the race between laps 100 and 200. It can only be used once.
“What do you think of Marcus Smith being able to throw a caution during the second half of the All-Star Race?” Fox’s Bob Pockrass asked the driver.
“I don’t know how it’s much different from what we already have truthfully,” the 44-year-old replied.

Interestingly, Hamlin isn’t alone in his thinking. Earlier this week Chase Elliott appeared on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio and was asked about the caution flag for the All-Star Race.
“Yeah, I mean, I’m not opposed to it,” Elliott said. “I think that there’s been some questionable cautions thrown in the course of the history of the sport in general. So I’d just as soon know that that’s coming and that’s the plan beforehand that they have one that they’re gonna throw that they’ve announced is gonna be for entertainment purposes.”
The All-Star Race is May 18 at North Wilkesboro Speedway. Race coverage begins at 8 p.m. ET on FS1.
