Colin Montgomerie has never been one to hide his emotions.
Montgomerie was an elite player for two decades from the late 1980s onwards.
He was an uncompromising character on the golf course and nothing has changed since he stopped playing competitively on the regular tour.

Colin Montgomerie slammed modern-day issue in professional golf in 2019
While speaking to the Scotsman back in 2019, Montgomerie highlighted how players spitting on the course needed to be stamped out.
“Oh, I hate that, I really hate it,” said Montgomerie.
“I can see it happening when they chew that tobacco on a baseball pitch and spitting into the dirt, which is okay, but not on a golf course.

“Spitting is one of the worst human traits. It happens in American sport. It happens on the PGA Tour, it happens on the Champions Tour, it happens on the Web.com Tour.

“We (British people) don’t tend to spit the way others do. I would love for it to be stamped out, but it is ingrown in American society, really.”
Does a new rule need to be brought in to prevent spitting?
It’s a fair point from Montgomerie. Spitting really is a disgusting habit, and numerous players on the PGA Tour, the DP World Tour and LIV Golf seem to think it’s acceptable.
Nothing has changed since Montgomerie spoke out about the problem back in 2019.
If anything, the issue has worsened.
Perhaps something needs to be done to make playeyrs think twice about spitting on the course.

Maybe players should be fined if they are caught in the act.
It is definitely something that has been allowed to go on unchecked for far too long now, and if nothing is done about it, it will only get worse.
Colin Montgomerie highlighted the issue seven years ago and there is no sign of it abating. Now’s the time for the game’s governing bodies to draw a line in the sand.
