Coco Gauff won last year’s French Open. She is the No. 4 ranked tennis player in the world. But, she still has her rough days on the road. This one just fell on a rather unfortunate day.

On her way to a morning match at Roland Garros, Gauff was in the passenger seat and felt a thud. The car she was in hit a pole and was no longer drivable.

But Gauff would not let this keep her away from her match, as she still made it to Roland Garros on time and won, despite a multitude of minor setbacks.

Here are the specifics on Gauff’s car accident and how she was able to turn around and win her match.

Coco Gauff’s ‘mini car accident’ on way to French Open

Gauff was being driven this morning, and the police were facilitating a point on the road which had a pole-like structure that moved up and down, according to Gauff. The police directed her driver to move forward despite the incorrect pole placement, which resulted in the car driving into the poll and being rendered undrivable.

“You felt a little impact and I spilled my juice all over the car,” Gauff said on the TNT broadcast.

The two hopped in a taxi to one location before taking a tournament car to the French Open. In her Tuesday match, Gauff defeated Taylor Townsend in straight sets, 6-4 and 6-0.

This came on the back of a whirlwind morning for Gauff, including a retirement and her dress getting stuck. However, she insists that it allows her to not overthink the match itself.

“I feel like it’s a good omen, maybe,” Gauff said.
