Dabo Swinney has seen plenty in his many years as Clemson’s head coach, and he’s not too worried about the way his team has started the season.
Swinney, whose Tigers dropped to 1-2 with a loss to Georgia Tech on Saturday, said he won’t “panic” about the rough start.
“I know there’s a lot of panic, and there’s a lot of whatever, but I don’t panic because I have perspective because I’ve been here many times, and I’ve lived it,” Swinney said on his radio show (h/t Derrian Carter of the Greenville News).
Clemson hasn’t given fans much to be excited about this year, losing to LSU in its season opener and barely avoiding an upset loss to Troy in Week 2. The Tigers then came up short against Georgia Tech on the road.
Veteran quarterback Cade Klubnik has been mostly disappointing after coming into the season as a Heisman favorite. Klubnik has thrown for just 633 yards and three touchdowns, completing just 59.1 percent of his passes and giving away three interceptions.
But Swinney thinks his team is close to figuring things out.
“Nobody wants to hear you’re close, but we’re a good football team,” he said on Monday (h/t Jon Blau of the Post and Courier).
Clemson will have the chance to reset and get things moving in the right direction this week when it faces Syracuse.
