The Brophy College Prep golf team has been ranked No. 1 in the nation in the final rankings by the PGA National High School Golf Association for the 2025-26 school year.

The Broncos topped the list of boys’ high school teams, ahead of No. 2 Mountain Brook (Alabama), No. 3 Notre Dame Prep (Arizona), No. 4 Corner Canyon (Utah) and No. 5 Lone Peak (Utah).

The Broncos are reigning two-time defending AIA Division I boys golf state champions. They defeated the Hamilton Huskies by 12 strokes in the 2025 Division I state championship to make it back-to-back titles.

Since 2017 the Broncos have never ranked worse than 29 in the nation and have averaged a No. 10 ranking throughout the decade. Brophy has been among the top-two finishers in the D-I state championship each year since the 2017-18 school year, winning four titles over that span.

The Broncos shot rounds of 272-277 in the two-day championship, with each of their top four players finishing among the top 10 individual scores.

Junior Asher Nelson and sophomore Hank Miller tied for second at 135 (-9) in the individual scoring. Senior Mateo Berastegui was at five-under par 139 in fifth place, while junior Jack Langbein was seventh overall at 140 after his second consecutive round of 70 (-2).

Brophy Prep captured its second straight Division I boys golf championship and 11th overall at Aguila Golf Course on Nov. 6, 2025.

Bronco’s head coach Jonathan Shores recognizes how special the run has been.

“It’s been an awesome run,” Shores said. “The last ten years have been exceptional for us. I really put it all on the families that the kids have. It’s a commitment to play here, so I’m just grateful for the families and the kids for that commitment, without that we don’t have the success.”

Evan Tyree, a rising Brophy senior, who is committed to play at Texas A&M starting in 2027, cited the team camaraderie as a major factor.

“We have a great group of guys,” Tyree said. “We all push each other to get better, we’re all competitive, and we just want to see ourselves succeed.”

The Broncos are now on a journey to play for a third straight state title and 12th overall, which would be the most among a boys team in state history and make them the first to complete a three-peat.

Thatcher and Arcadia high schools are currently tied with Brophy at 11 boys’ state titles each.

“As much as I want to win, I want these young men to have experiences that prepare them for life beyond Brophy,” Shores said. “So, when I think big picture, of course a third state title is great, but I want to do my part in ensuring these kids are prepared for life beyond.”

Tyree credited his coach for helping his development.

“I’ve learned so much from him, and not just on the golf course,” Tyree said. “He’s been a really great guide for me, for all of us on the team, and he’s been a great person to all of us.”
