Liverpool silence critics under Arne Slot

Few expected Liverpool to mount a serious title challenge after Jurgen Klopp’s departure in May 2024, yet under Arne Slot, they defied predictions to lift the Premier League trophy once again. The Reds’ victory was impressive not just for the silverware, but for proving critics like Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta wrong.

Liverpool’s rise coincided with Arsenal’s stumble, leaving Arteta visibly frustrated. The Spaniard pointed out Liverpool’s title-winning points total was lower than Arsenal’s runner-up finishes in previous seasons, implying luck played a significant role.

Mac Allister hits back at Arteta

Responding directly to Arteta’s claims, Alexis Mac Allister emphasised Liverpool’s merit in their title success. Speaking to The Anfield Wrap, Mac Allister said:

“We didn’t expect to win the league that easily, but it’s something nice because I think we deserved it. Some people said ‘oh, because of the points, you’ve done less points than Arsenal last season,’ but I think we fully deserved it and that’s why we are really happy and enjoying the last weeks already being champions.”

The midfielder’s response clearly highlighted Liverpool’s consistency and teamwork rather than mere good fortune.

Alexis Mac Allister’s key role at Liverpool

Since joining from Brighton in 2023, Mac Allister has evolved into a central figure at Anfield, showcasing his quality consistently across two seasons. With seven goals and six assists this campaign, he played a pivotal part in Liverpool’s Premier League win, continuing his upward trajectory at the club.

This form has not gone unnoticed, with rumours linking him to Real Madrid intensifying, although Mac Allister reaffirmed his happiness at Anfield.

“Without my teammates this wouldn’t be possible,” he added. “This is a team sport and I’m not a player that will dribble past five players and score a goal, I’m not that type of player. I need my teammates and they really help me a lot. That’s why I’m really happy at this club because I’ve got great teammates, great people.”

Liverpool’s future brighter than Arsenal’s?

While Arsenal face another summer reflecting on what might have been, Liverpool look firmly forward. Arne Slot’s tactical astuteness combined with Mac Allister’s midfield dominance suggests that Liverpool could be entering another golden era.

As for Arteta, perhaps the time for excuses has run out.
