There have been doubts surrounding Aleksandr Golovin (29) and his future at AS Monaco, doubts that the player’s agent has attempted to allay.
Golovin was a key player during the 2023/24 season, showing his best form since joining the club back in 2018. However, last season was a more familiar story with the Russian struggling with injury issues that disrupted his rhythm and curtailed his influence.
In his absence, Takumi Minamino featured more prominently, whilst Maghnes Akliouche also had the strongest and most productive season of his career. As a result, L’Équipe reported that Golovin’s future at the Principality club was in doubt this summer, with a return to his native Russia touted.
Those reports have been denied by Aleksandr Klyuev, the player’s agent. “Golovin on the market? It’s nonsense! I don’t understand why we are talking about these absurdities […] he is one of the leaders of the club,” he told Sport24 in an interview transcribed by AS Monaco Mercato.
The playmaker’s contract with Les Monégasques runs until 2029, with his most recent extension at the club coming in October 2024.
