A Louisville Metro Councilwoman said a park near the Valley Station neighborhood was heavily vandalized after people drove over the golf course, according to an Aug. 3 post to Facebook.
In the post, Councilwoman Crystal Bast, R-District 14, wrote that people on four-wheelers drove through Sun Valley Park during the night of Aug. 2, causing “significant damage” to the park’s golf course and completely tearing up one hole, which Bast said will “take a lot of time and money to restore.”
“The frustrating part is that we just invested money into improving this golf course,” she wrote. “I’ve been working with Parks and the golf professionals on plans to make it an even better place for families and golfers to enjoy. Instead of spending those dollars on new improvements, we’re now forced to spend taxpayer money repairing damage that never should have happened.”
Spray foam was also used to create swastika symbols in the parking lot, something that has “absolutely no place” in the community, Bast wrote.
Bast said security cameras will now be installed at the park in case of future incidents, and encouraged anyone who witnessed the vandalism to contact her office and to report any active vandalism to Louisville Metro Police.
“Sun Valley Park belongs to all of us,” Bast wrote. “Let’s take pride in it, protect it, and hold the people who damage it accountable.”
