Scottie Scheffler has experienced a really strange season on the PGA Tour in 2026.
Scheffler has only won once so far this season, and has failed to lift a major trophy.
By the world number one’s standards, that simply has to go down as a failure, whichever way you look at it.

In spite of that, Scottie Scheffler has absolutely dominated almost every key statistical category on the PGA Tour this season.

He has also recorded 11 top-fives in just 17 PGA Tour starts in 2026, including five runner-up finishes.
Scheffler is the first player to record five runner-up finishes on the PGA Tour since in-depth record-taking began in 1983.

Scheffler doesn’t have a major championship to his name this year, like Rory McIlroy does.
Matt Fitzpatrick, Cam Young and Wyndham Clark all have more victories to their names than the 30-year-old from Dallas.

Yet Brandel Chamblee still believes there is a very strong case for Scheffler to be named as the PGA Tour Player of the Year.
Chamblee took to his official X account to argue Scheffler’s case.
“With 3 tournaments remaining that Scheffler will likely play this FedExCup season, there’s a case to be made for and against him being voted PGA Tour Player of the Year for the 5th consecutive year,“ he said.

Case against Scottie Scheffler being Player of the Year
Chamblee did highlight one potential reason why Scheffler may not be crowned as the PGA Tour’s best player this year.

“The case against him is that no player has ever been voted PGA Tour Player of the Year (since it began in 1990) who won just once during the season,“ Chamblee said.
“But then no player has been so dominant from a scoring and statistical standpoint who won just once during the season.
“With no clearly dominant player thus far in either the majors or in wins, the PGA Tour playoffs will have added meaning in determining the POY for 2026.“
As Chamblee says, no player has been as dominant as Scheffler in the history of the game while only winning one time throughout the season.

That could all change, of course, with three huge events still to come to end the season.
And if Scottie Scheffler wins at least one of those, he will then almost certainly be named as the PGA Tour Player of the Year.
