The San Francisco 49ers announced that they’ve signed punter Jack Bouwmeester to a three-year deal.
Bouwmeester was a freshman way back in 2019, when he attended Michigan State before transferring after the 2021 season. Bouwmeester spent the next three seasons at Utah before ending up at Kyle Shanahan’s alma mater, Texas. The 27-year-old was undrafted in the 2026 NFL Draft. Last season at Texas, he averaged 44.5 yards per punt.

Bouwmeester had a 58-yard punt last season, which was the longest by a Longhorn punter since the 2023 season. In 2024, he had 13 punts travel at least 50 yards, including a 62-yarder. He had two 60-yarders that season. Back in 2023, Bouwmeester had 19 punts travel at least 50 yards. Needless to say, distance shouldn’t be an issue.
Bouwmeester joins Corliss Waitman as the other punter on the active roster.
The 49ers also placed undrafted free agent Khalil Dinkins on the Active/Non-Football Injury List. If Dinkins isn’t activated or is unable to play by the final roster cutdown at the end of August, he’ll move to the reserve/NFI list and miss at least four games. However, Dinkins would not count against the 53-man active roster.
