At Mineirão, Cruzeiro defeated São Paulo 1-0 this Saturday (30th), in the 22nd round of the Brasileirão.

Buoyed by the victory in the midweek classic in the Copa do Brasil, the Raposa relied on a full stadium to help the team try to maintain their good form.

However, in the first half, the Tricolor Paulista was better on the field, with more ball possession and more shots on goal defended by Cássio.

The young Rodriguinho was once again the standout for São Paulo on the field.

But after the break, Cruzeiro secured the winning goal through a free-kick by Matheus Pereira from the edge of the area, which deflected off Alan Franco in the wall, leaving Rafael with no chance to save.

The goal demoralized the São Paulo team and excited the Cabuloso, who went on to dominate the match and create good chances to extend the lead.

In stoppage time, Cássio saved a point-blank header from Dinenno, preventing the “law of the ex” at Mineirão.

With their second consecutive victory in the Brasileirão (the third of the season), Cruzeiro reached 44 points and returned to second place in the table, behind only Flamengo (46 points).

Meanwhile, São Paulo, who suffered a defeat in the championship after eight rounds, remained with 32 points and in seventh place.

The teams will only return to the field after the September FIFA break.

The Raposa will play the classic against Atlético-MG at Mineirão on September 11th, for the second leg of the Copa do Brasil quarter-finals (first leg 2-0).

In the Brasileirão, Cruzeiro will visit Bahia at Arena Fonte Nova on September 15th (Monday), for the 23rd round. Meanwhile, the Tricolor Paulista will host Botafogo at MorumBIS on September 14th.
