At Nilton Santos Stadium, Botafogo defeated RB Bragantino 2-0 this Tuesday (29th), in the first leg of the Round of 16 of the 2025 Copa do Brasil.

The match was total domination by the current champions of the Brasileirão and the Americas.

The team from São Paulo only really threatened at the start of the match, with a cross shot from Sasha that was saved by John.

After that, it was all Botafogo, who opened the scoring with Montoro, finishing first-time from Vitinha’s low cross from the right.

Glorioso didn’t slow down, kept Cleiton busy in goal, and scored a second goal still in the first half.

This time, on a counterattack down the left, Cuiabano delivered a perfect cross for center-back Alexander Barboza, who, like a well-positioned striker in the opponent’s box, headed the ball into the back of the net.

After the break, Botafogo still had good chances to increase their lead, but the score remained unchanged.

In fact, in stoppage time, Massa Bruta had a great opportunity, but John made a fantastic save to maintain Botafogo’s comfortable advantage in the tie.

With the win, Botafogo can even lose by one goal next Wednesday (6th), at Estádio Cícero de Souza Marques, and still advance to the quarterfinals.

RB Bragantino needs to win by three goals to secure qualification. If they win by two, the spot will be decided on penalties.

Massa Bruta returns to the field next Sunday (3rd), when they visit Atlético-MG at Arena MRV for the 18th round of the Brasileirão, while Glorioso hosts Cruzeiro at Nilton Santos Stadium for the national championship.
