This is one of the strangest stories in all of sports. Moe Norman was a Canadian golfer who has a very odd story.

Norman was by most accounts a very unusual man. A lot of people believed that he must be autistic, but a psychiatrist you’ll see in this video believed that he was an acquired savant: “someone who suddenly develops an extraordinary and perhaps obsessive ability in music, art, math or another field after sustaining a head injury.”

Norman did in fact sustain a head injury in his youth and had unusual talents in golf, baseball and math.

He was too strange and withdrawn to make it on the PGA and stuck with the Canadian tour instead. But the guy could do anything he wanted to on a golf course.

But he developed a reputation for just being strange and was shy and withdrawn. He would win tournaments and leave before the awards ceremony.

But he was one of the great ball strikers in the history of the sport and he worked obsessively at his craft. All he really cared about was golf and he knew it like few ever have.
