The Yankees and Trent Grisham avoided arbitration Friday when they agreed on a one-year contract for $5 million, according to a report by ESPN’s Jorge Castillo.
Grisham, 28, “can make another $250,000 in bonuses tied to plate appearances,” Castillo added.
New York acquired Grisham Dec. 6, 2023, from the San Diego Padres in the Juan Soto trade.
In 76 games, Grisham slashed .190/.290/.385 with nine home runs and 31 RBI.
Grisham was a two-time Gold Glove Award winner (2020, 2022) while slashing .214/.315/.381 with 55 home runs and 191 RBI as a Padre from 2020-23.
He began his career with the Milwaukee Brewers, who selected him with the 2015 MLB Draft’s No. 15 overall pick. Grisham debuted Aug. 1, 2019, and slashed .231/.328/.410 with six home runs and 24 RBI in 51 games.
