Arni Sveinsson withdrew during the first round of the 2026 U.S. Amateur.

Sveinsson, ranked 12th in the world, was 11 over thru 11 holes at Merion on Monday when he made the decision to WD. No official reason was given for Sveinsson’s decision.

Nineteen of the top 20 players in the World Amateur Golf Ranking were in the field to begin the week, with only No. 2 Tyler Weaver not teeing it up because of a back injury. Now, another top player is out of the tournament on the first day.
