The 2026 World Cup continues on Friday with a quarterfinal match between Spain and Belgium.

Through five matches, Spain has yet to concede a goal while scoring nine of its own to reach the quarterfinals for the first time since being crowned champions in 2010. Unai Simón has faced only five shots on goal, but he’s denied them all and leads the tournament with five clean sheets. He’s not allowed a goal in a record 609 minutes.
Mikel Merino’s stoppage time goal saw Spain knock out Portugal in the Round of 16. They will face European competition for the third straight match with a Belgium side that eliminated one of the tournament’s three co-hosts in the United States.
It’s a last dance for Belgium greats Kevin De Bruyne, Thibaut Courtois, and Romelu Lukaku. All three were integral in the Red Devils finishing third in 2018 with Lukaku scoring four times and Courtois winning the Golden Glove.
Belgium’s Amadou Onana will miss the rest of the tournament after suffering a ruptured ACL in the win over the U.S.
