Ghana have reappointed Carlos Queiroz as manager just two months after he stepped down in the wake of their World Cup campaign.
Queiroz, 73, was only named head coach of the Black Stars two months out from the tournament finals, succeeding Otto Addo who was sacked following emphatic defeats by Austria and Germany.

The former Manchester United assistant manager guided Ghana through the group stage, which included a goalless draw with England, before they were knocked out by Colombia in the round of 32.
Amid a down period in Ghana’s footballing history, having enduring the humiliation of not qualifying for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, a knockouts finish in the World Cup was hardly a failure for Queiroz.

And despite stepping away from the role immediately after their elimination in July, veteran tactician Queiroz has made a shock return to the Ghana setup.
“The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is pleased to announce that it has reached an agreement with Carlos Queiroz for his appointment as Head Coach of the Black Stars for the next phase of the team’s programme,” an official statement read.

“The GFA believes Queiroz’s extensive international experience, technical expertise and knowledge of the Black Stars position him strongly to lead the team into this next chapter.
“Further details on the new mandate and the Black Stars’ upcoming programme will be announced in due course, as the GFA and Coach Queiroz turn their focus to building a successful new phase for Ghana on the international stage.”
Querioz, who previously managed Portugal, Iran and Egypt at World Cups, said upon his departure that “success must start off the field, by creating the best possible environment to prepare, protect and develop Ghana’s extraordinary football talent”.
His focus will now be preparing for Ghana’s Afcon qualification campaign, which begins in September, as the Black Stars look to make their return to Africa’s marquee competition.
Ghana have been drawn in Group C alongside Ivory Coast, The Gambia and Somalia.
