Pacioretty tweaked something last week before Toronto’s second practice following the 4 Nations break. He was on the ice several times after that, though he never participated in a full practice with the team.
The veteran forward has appeared in 37 games this season, scoring five goals and eight assists for 13 points. He hasn’t played since Toronto’s 2-1 loss to the Vancouver Canucks on Feb. 8.
“I think it’s more of he needs to get relief. It’s not so much of an injury, I don’t believe. It’s just he’s got some tightness and things like that,” Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube said last Friday.
Maple Leafs’ Max Pacioretty Out Of Lineup This Weekend, Connor Dewar Could Play Sunday Against Blackhawks The Toronto Maple Leafs could be getting one of their injured players back this weekend.
Pacioretty has missed time this year with several ailments, including a lower-body injury that forced him to miss a month in November. He also suffered an upper-body injury in mid-January after taking a puck to the ear against the Montreal Canadiens.
He signed a one-year, $1.5 million contract with Toronto in October after arriving at training camp on a professional tryout.
Rifai has yet to appear in an NHL game with the Maple Leafs this season. He played two last season, averaging 11:40 under former head coach Sheldon Keefe.
An undrafted defenseman, Rifai joined the organization on an AHL contract before signing a two-year, league-minimum deal in July 2023, and inked the same deal again in September.
He has three goals and six assists for nine points in 44 games this season with the Marlies.
The Maple Leafs play the New York Rangers on Friday before playing back-to-back games on Sunday and Monday against the Pittsburgh Penguins and the San Jose Sharks.
